be my gateway, baby (purple) is dedicated to
- Mark Twain was my first literary love. Each summer from the time I was five until I was eleven I spent on my grandparents five acres in rural Missouri. When I first red Tom Sawyer I immediately recognize him because he was me. I was a Tom Sawyer who wanted to be Huck Finn but I knew the truth was my best friend on that dirt rode out in the woods was a real Huck Finn. It was in his blood. It was in his mouth.Mark Twain, as some might be inclined to say these days, made me felt seen by the world in a place where I felt I walked with God but that's another story.
Medium: Pyrography on poplar wood with water-based wood stain and a polycrylic topcoat.

Care
Avoid placing in direct sunlight as this will fade the pyrography over time. Occasionally dust with a lint free cloth. Do not clean with water or chemicals.
Design
Each piece is originally created in a design software and transferred to wood by tracing with carbon graphite paper. I then burn the design on a wood canvas (most commonly birch wood but also poplar and pine) with a Colwood Super Pro II woodburner. Color is added with wood stains and I've lately become a big fan of Dixie Belle paints.
